Italian is a world renowned romance language. When spoken it draws a romantic feel. It is a featured language in the music genre as well as the food industry. Italian Operas are very popular and there are many musical terms that derive from Italian. The food industry is littered with Italian dishes and phrasing. Because of the popularity of Italian it is often a language that people desire to learn. There are many ways to learn a language including complete immersion into an Italian speaking environment or even language learning software like Rocket Italian review. No matter how one goes about learning this wonderful language it certainly is well worth it.

The Language

Over 65 million people throughout the world claim Italian as their native tongue. It is one of the national languages for many countries throughout Europe including Italy and Switzerland. The Italian language has a long controversial history. A descendant of Latin, it has gone through many changes and disputes to become the language it is today.

Renaissance

The Renaissance was a turning point for many of the humanities. Art, philosophy, and linguistics. During the Renaissance Italian was being used in every state throughout the country in the courts. At this time there was a rediscovery of Dante’s De vulgari eloquentia. This reclaiming instilled a debate among scholars as to what the best version of Italian would be like.

Debate

The debate regarding the Italian language that began with Renaissance divided scholars into different schools of thought. There were the purists, the Florentines, and the courtiers. There was also a fourth faction that believed the best Italian was that adopted by the papal courts.

The Classics

Pietro Bembo who hailed from Venice led the purist school of thought. He argued that the best form of the Italian language was that of the great classics. These classics included Petrarch and sections of Boccaccio. Some considered The Divine Comedy a classic; however the purists looked down upon it as it did not display the lyrical Italian that they were trying to promote.

Other factions

The other schools of thought included the Florentines in which Niccolo Machiavelli was a member of and the courtiers. The Florentines believed that the best Italian for the country was that which was spoken by the common people in their own time. The courtiers felt that each local vernacular should be taken into consideration and contribute to the new standard Italian for the peninsula. Although equally heady arguments, the purist school of thought won.

Accademia Della Crusca

The purists eventually triumphed over the Florentines and the courtiers. This victory lead to the formation of the Accademia Della Crusca in Florence. It was formed between 1582 and 1583. It is known as the official legislative body governing the Italian language. The Accademia Della Crusca published the Floris italicae linguae libri novem. They also published the world’s first Italian dictionary in 1612.

The Italian language has gone through many transformations to become the language it is today. The 16th century controversy is widely responsible for the lyrical romantic Italian language. There weren’t language software programs back then like Rocket German review or Rocket Italian to help. This is why a consensus had to be reached as to what form of Italian would become the country’s language. No matter the reason, learning Italian is sure to broaden your linguistic and cultural horizons.

Does powdered infant formula (PIF) contaminated with Cronobacter sakazakii nee Enterobacter sakazakii constitute a design defect? The district court in The Security National Bank of Sioux City, Iowa v. Abbott Laboratories thinks so.

Creating (we think) a design defect dichotomy the court distinguished between "intended design", here PIF designed to specification but without bacteria and (apparently) "unintended design" – PIF designed to specification but with bacteria. Unintended design defects sound suspiciously like manufacturing defects since the bugs are picked up in the manufacturing process but the court held otherwise. Turning defendant’s argument that bacterial contamination is common in any food not specifically sold as sterile into an assertion that the PIF was thereby meant incorporate E. sakazakii the court wrote: "[a]ny assertion that Defendant’s intended design included the presence of E. sakazakii strains credulity."

Hammering away at defendant’s claim that the microbial world’s ancient and relentless assault on humanity and its works aren’t part of the design of PIF the court continued: "the implication is clear: their product is intended to contain E. sakazakii, as well as other potentially harmful bacteria. First, if 75% of a product does not contain a bacteria and 25% of a product does, elementary statistics dictates that the 75% without the bacteria constitutes the norm while the 25% with the bacteria constitutes a deviation therefrom. Second, a common defect, such as the persistent contamination of a food product with bacteria, if generally unknown and proven harmful, should increase a manufacturer’s total liability, rather than eliminate it." Finally, holding that plaintiff’s proposed alternate designs of adding a biocide to the unintentionally designed but on spec PIF, or of adding water so that PIF becomes IF, the court concluded that plaintiff’s design defect claims survived defendant’s motion to dismiss.

So, when a food company’s designs don’t include E. sakazakii’s does that constitute an "unintended design defect"? Even when its product is on spec? And is adding e.g. antibiotics or soaps or chlorine to PIF a valid alternate design of PIF? How about claiming that PIF can be changed to IF without somehow losing the P?

A half dozen other claims by plaintiff also survived the motion to dismiss including manufacturing defect and breach of implied warranty. Those we get but the design defect claim is a head-scratcher. Perhaps the court didn’t understand that we’re all in continuous contact with potentially harmful bacteria. In fact, we’re full of and crawling with countless numbers of them though we only notice if say one that lives peacefully on our skin winds up in our lungs. Or maybe the court understood and is imposing a duty to incorporate nature’s designs into our own. We’ll let you know if further light is shed on the matter.

I still like Pinterest. It’s just not as interesting to me as it was a couple of weeks ago. I’m not quitting Pinterest. I am not taking down my boards. It is funny to watch people swear off Pinterest. And to try to get others to swear off Pinterest. I am not trying to discourage you from trying Pinterest. Or loving Pinterest.

Standing in line at the Lennox Movie Theater recently a 20 something (I am guessing) girl was making fun of a girl she was with having “Pinterest hair.” The hair style was cute. It did reek of Pinterest.

Do you want to prove it’s possible for an enormous grassroots movement, backed up by fearless Democrats, to part a sea of unlimited corporate dollars and win elections with the message that we should stop taking stuff from working people and giving it to the rich?

We have a chance to prove that right now. Please, click here to contribute to the Democratic Party of Wisconsin for the recall of Governor Scott Walker.

One year ago this week, tens of thousands of people were physically occupying the Wisconsin state capitol building and the grounds surrounding it. They were protesting an immoral Republican budget bill that stripped collective bargaining rights for public employees and slashed funding for health care and education in order to hand out huge tax breaks to corporations and the ultra-rich.

With this budget just hours from passage, all 14 Democratic senators left the state, thus denying Republicans the quorum they needed to pass the bill. If even one Democrat had either stayed behind or been captured by the state police which Republicans sent to arrest them, then the bill would have passed that day. Instead, the Democrats held out and the ranks of the protesters swelled. Fed by pizza orders called in from around the world, they kept the capitol building occupied for weeks.

Republicans eventually passed their budget bill by illegally circumventing Wisconsin’s open meetings law, but the protesters and the Democrats were undeterred.

Backed by the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, the protesters began organizing recalls of Republican state senators. With an all-volunteer effort, they collected hundreds of thousands of signatures in less than two months. Over the summer, they successfully removed two Republicans from office by scoring electoral victories in districts Democrats could not even win in the landslide of 2008.

Even after that, the protesters and the Democrats kept going. They continued holding daily protests at the capitol building and dogging Scott Walker at all of his public appearances. Then, on Nov. 15, they filed the papers to recall Scott Walker. Through snow and winter weather, more than 30,000 volunteers collected over one million recall signatures. In so doing, they forced recall elections against not only Scott Walker, but also against the Republican Lt. Governor and at least three more Republican state senators.

The whole time they did it with a simple message: Scott Walker and Wisconsin Republicans are cutting education, health care and salaries for working people in order to make big corporations and the ultra-rich even richer. Despite the unlimited donations which have given Republicans a massive financial advantage in this fight, the Democrats and the protesters have used this populism to continually gain ground.

Wisconsin is not the only state where these battles are being fought, but it is a special case because it shows us a path to victory. How do we put an end to the gut-wrenching trend of conservative politicians taking from working people and giving to the rich? We do it by having heroes on the ground who keep protesting, gathering signatures, and knocking on doors no matter what, and by having Democrats who are willing to back those heroes up by going to the mat to defend the middle-class.

The decisive recall election against Scott Walker is coming soon. If Walker is recalled, then the whole country will know Democrats and the middle class can defeat the forces of greed with fearless populism. Republicans and the ultra-rich know such an outcome could change the political dynamic in our nation, which is why they have given more than million dollars to Scott Walker to defeat the recall. Much of that money came from only a few dozen members of the one percent of the one percent, all of whom gave ,000 or more.

What happens in Wisconsin will impact the entire country. We must prove it’s possible for a tenacious grassroots movement, backed up by a fearless Democratic Party, to breach a red sea of corporate cash and win elections with a populist economic message. If we lose, the masters of the universe will continue looting what remains of the middle class with no apparent electoral consequences for politicians who facilitate their destructive actions.

On the one year anniversary of the beginning of the Wisconsin protests, please give to the Democratic Party of Wisconsin to recall Scott Walker. This is an election none of us can afford to lose.
